About The Event
Mind on Fire returns to Le Mondo this April 27th and 28th with a big new show: I Peered Through the Other Side // Blood of a Poet. The evening features two huge compositions from local composers David Diongue and Ruby Fulton, eleven musicians, two dancers, and one French surrealist film.
Saturday & Sunday, April 27 & 28
Doors/Bar: 7PM
Event: 8PM
David Diongue’s I Peered to the Other Side will be a world premiere. A polystylistic exploration of connection and translation, I Peered to the Other Side features a mixed quartet of jazz-focused multi-instrumentalists paired with a classical music-focused expanded string quartet illuminated by a pair of dancers. Diongue’s composed music is translated through the immediate compositions of the improvising quartet, then translated and bolstered by the classical quartet, then re-translated and elaborated upon by the movement artists.
Ruby Fulton’s Blood of a Poet is a soundtrack created for the surreal Jean Cocteau film of the same name. The film, released in 1932, came at the peak of the early French cinema avant-garde. It explores themes of fame, death, instability, and indifference - - emphasizing the overlapping disassociation between spectacle and intimacy. Fulton’s music apprehends the same dichotomy, exploring surrealism in music to instigate the disorienting and hallucinatory quality of a dream.
